Early engagement shaping a specialist healthcare environment

As part of JDV Projects’ continued work within St George Private Hospital, the team delivered the new consulting suite for The Urology Practice from two adjoining cold-shell tenancies.
The cold-shell starting point required a fully integrated fitout, including mechanical, fire and hydraulic services, ceilings and electrical infrastructure. JDV demolished the existing intertenancy wall, joined the two suites and consolidated their separate distribution boards into a single electrical system. This early coordination created a clear foundation for the architectural and clinical elements that followed.
The completed practice includes four perimeter consultation rooms with south-east views across Botany Bay. Each room incorporates an examination bed, handwashing facilities and custom joinery with integrated display shelving. A further two interconnected consulting rooms have been prepared for use by a cardiology practice, with plumbing, electrical services and audiovisual connectivity already in place. This forward planning gives the suite flexibility to accommodate complementary specialists without significant future disruption.
A dedicated treatment room connects directly to the nurse’s office and includes integrated joinery and a sluice sink. The reception area provides three patient-facing positions, supported by a separate practice manager’s nook. Built-in banquette seating, varied patient seating and a refreshment station create a comfortable waiting environment, while the staff tearoom also functions as a meeting space and includes a separate staff access point.
The interior detailing establishes a unique identity for the practice while addressing acoustic and operational requirements. Features include acoustic wall panelling, custom-printed commercial wall vinyl, and a curved timber-slatted wall. Inside the reception area, a coffered ceiling with acoustic perforated infill and indirect lighting forms a strong architectural centrepiece without compromising the calm atmosphere needed in a medical setting.
